Sophia Christi Embarks on its 10th Year
Sophia Christi celebrated its 9th Anniversary last month and is now embarking on its tenth year. We gathered for Mass in Portland for the first time on August 25, 2007 following Pastor Toni’s ordination one month earlier on July 28. Though our first gathering in Eugene was November 12, we date the beginning of Sophia Christi to our first Mass under the leadership of a woman priest. Many have passed through our doors in the last nine years–some curious, some simply interested in experiencing a woman at the altar–but many have stayed to build community and establish an alternative voice on Catholic theology and practice that addresses the pastoral needs of progressive women and men within and outside the Roman Catholic tradition. All are welcome as we grow this welcoming and inclusive community of faith.
